New Philadelphia residents and business operators are invited to “Salute Freedom” with the Rotary Club of New Philadelphia.  The annual project to place American flags around the city is in its 14th year.  Past subscribers are invited to renew for the current year.  New subscribers are welcome to add their home or business to the nearly 200 in New Philadelphia who've become part of this project.

Project co-chairman Tom Police says the cost of high quality American flags has risen in price since the project began 14 years ago.  “We were able to buy high quality American-made flags from Annin Flags in Coshocton at a reasonable price.  Since then, the price of flags has soared, but at least we can still buy made-in-America flags,” Police said.  He notes that less expensive flags used in recent years often would not last the year without fading and ripping.  The Salute Freedom flag made by Annin flags typically looks great for two years or longer and is then appropriately retired.

Due to the significant increase is the cost of the flag, the Salute Freedom Project annual fee is now $50.  "While the subscriber cost is higher now, we are confident the flag in front of your home or business will retain its full red, white, and blue colors without fading or tearing," Police added.

Teams of Rotary Club members install the flags prior to the Memorial Day Holiday Weekend and remove them all following Veterans Day on November 11.  This year the DEADLINE is May 1 to subscribe and ensure your flag is in by Memorial Day.  New or renewal subscriptions received after May 1 will be installed as soon as possible.

Coordinating the Salute Freedom subscriptions and installation routes is the other Rotarian project co-chairman, Mark Garrison.

“Again this year we have an on-line web site to enable new subscribers and those renewing to sign up and make their payment through a secure pay site,” Garrison said.  Click HERE to reach the Salute Freedom web page.

Garrison says paper forms can also be downloaded from this site for both new and renewing subscribers who prefer to send a check.  It's also fine to simply send a check for $50 payable to New Philadelphia Rotary, along with your name, address, and phone number to the New Philadelphia Rotary Club at PO Box 331, New Philadelphia, OH 44663

Flags in the Salute Freedom Project are placed only within the New Philadelphia City limits.
