New Philadelphia residents and business operators are invited to “Salute Freedom” with the Rotary Club of New Philadelphia. The annual project to place American flags around the city is in its 1th year by seeking new participants for 2023.

In addition to placing more than 200 flags at homes and businesses around New Philadelphia, the Rotary Club installs the 56 flags that line the downtown square for a block in each direction. Rotarians place 20 more flags along North Broadway next to Tuscora Park.
Rotary club member and project co-chairman Tom Police says the cost of high quality American flags has risen in price since the project began 11 years ago. “We were able to buy American-made flags then for five-dollars apiece. This year, a similar American-made quality flag costs $16,” Police said. He notes a Salute Freedom flag typically is used for three years and is then appropriately retired.
Even though the cost of the flags and metal flag poles has increased significantly, Police says the club is holding the participation fee at last year’s $30. “As long as we continue to add new subscribers and renew previous participants we will do just fine,” Police adds.
Teams of Rotary Club members install the flag when a new subscriber enrolls and will remove them all following Veterans Day on November 11.
Coordinating the Salute Freedom subscriptions and installation routes is the other Rotarian project co-chairman, Mark Garrison.
“Again this year we have an on-line web site to enable new subscribers and those renewing to sign up and make their payment through a secure pay site,” Garrison said. Click HERE to reach the Salute Freedom web page.
Garrison says paper forms can also be downloaded from this site for both new and renewing subscribers who prefer to send a check, or send a check along with your name, address, and phone number to the New Philadelphia Rotary Club at PO Box 331, New Philadelphia, OH 44663
Flags in the Salute Freedom Project are placed only within the New Philadelphia City limits.
